JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF: Which Format Should You Use?
A clear guide to choosing an image format for photos, transparency and animation.
Image formats solve different problems. Picking the right one can improve quality, compatibility and page speed.
JPG for photographs
JPG is widely supported and efficient for photographs, but it does not preserve transparency.
PNG for transparency
PNG is a strong choice for graphics, screenshots and images that require transparent areas.
WebP for modern delivery
WebP can offer a useful balance between quality and size in current browsers. GIF remains useful for simple animation.
